We are proud to inform you that The Mail & Guardian and Empowerdex are launched an exciting new research project on black economic empowerment in South Africa’s listed companies, on the 15th of March 2013.
Empowerdex pioneered the ranking of South Africa’s listed companies more than 10 years ago, rating them according to their success in transforming their businesses. As black empowerment has become one of the major strategic challenges for South African companies, Empowerdex’s research has been decisive in measuring it. The research studies JSE-listed companies in each sector and determines which have done best overall on the various factors that are important in empowerment: from ownership to enterprise development.

Historically many people claimed to be accounting officers, and thus confirming incorrect information. As this memo states it is now a requirement for all accounting officers to display their practice number; these professional practice numbers can be better traced and have to abide by particular industry standards to keep their designations, and therefore statements that are issued by them can be relied upon, regarding the turnover level of the EME’s.
The Empowerdex Technical Committee will issue an effective date on this issue, after giving due consideration to the effect on clients already engaged with Empowerdex.
